Family Law Blog: "My divorce was a surprise to me"

"My divorce came to me as a complete surprise. That's what happens when you haven't been home in 18 years". LEE TREVINO

Well, OK, maybe he can have a joke about his own divorce and I do see the funny side,  but there are many people who find the fact that they are about to be divorced, a complete shock. They "didn't see it coming". That rather goes against the common idea that people argue more and more and then decide to get a divorce. It often isn't like that.

Was your divorce a great surprise or did you see it coming?

Not only is it a shock to some people to find they are presented with divorce proceedings, but in one case I have recently advised a client on, a complete shock that her husband had divorced her at all, she has no knowledge of the proceedings. This in turn has led to serious financial consequences! Whilst a very rare occurance, it can happen where one party does not engage in the process so my best advice is indeed to take advice, if only to see where you stand as a result....
