Stratford law firm launches a new guide book to divorce

Thursday 17 July 2008 1:51 PM
A second edition of a pocket book on surviving divorce has been launched by a leading UK family law specialist.

Andrew Woolley, managing partner of Woolley & Co, helped write the original version of Surviving Family Conflict and Divorce before it was published last year.

Demand for the book has far outstripped expectation and a second, updated edition of the plain English guide has now been published to help struggling couples pick their way as smoothly as possible through the divorce process.

Prenuptial agreements, how to make a separation legal, sorting finances – including pension assets – step-parents, grandparents’ rights and divorce options for ex-pats are all discussed in the book.

“Divorce is never a pleasant experience and we have found that many couples considering separation are distressed further by simply not knowing what is involved,” said Andrew, who founded Woolley & Co from his Stratford base in 1996, operating with lawyers working remotely from home offices and making optimum use of the latest web-based technology to serve clients.

“Picking out some of the main issues on separation and putting them in a discreet book that people can keep to hand is an idea that really seems to have taken off.

“Copies of the first edition went really quickly. We thought it was something worth updating and then publishing again so the second edition is now available.

“The idea is not to encourage more divorce, but to ensure that those who do feel their marriage has broken down irretrievably can be properly informed about what to do.”

There were 141,750 divorces in 2005, compared with 153,399 in 2004.
