Today Woolley & Co launch a set of resources to help engaged couples talk about the thorny issue of prenuptial agreements.

With divorce rates in the UK at 42 per cent according to the latest Office of National Statistics reports, it makes sense for couples about to marry to think carefully about what they would want to happen if things didn’t work out.

Woolley & Co, believe costs and upset could be avoided if more couples drew up a prenuptial agreement before they tied the knot, safeguarding what they bring into the marriage.

In many parts of the world pre-nups are commonplace and are treated like an insurance policy, there in case you need it not because you think your marriage will fail.

When planning their wedding, couples consider everything to the last detail – but very few have a conversation about a prenuptial agreement. That is why we trying to get people to discuss it more openly and have invested in resources to help couples at the wedding planning stage.

We’ve tried to tackle the tricky issue of how to raise prenups with your fiancé, in our latest video - Talking to your fiancé about a prenuptial agreement.

It gives information on why it is so important, advice on how to broach the subject and is done in a style to encourage sharing on social media. 

A properly drawn up prenuptial agreements can protect any wealth you bring into the marriage as there is a strong precedent for them being adhered to in divorce. In addition to the video Woolley & Co has produced a free guide on How to create a binding prenuptial agreement, which sets out five key elements that need to be present to make an agreement water-tight.
