Civil partnership divorce

Divorce solicitor Quyen Trickett explains how civil partnerships can be dissolved.

Well I am often asked by clients who are in a civil partnership what would happen, could they get a divorce should the relationship sadly break down. And the long and short of it is, it is not called a divorce but the process will be the same, it is actually called dissolution. The process for ending a civil partnership from start to end would take about four to six months and you do have to prove that it has broken down. I am often asked whether or not in a civil partnership when the relationship breaks down they can make a claim for maintenance and the simple answer is yes but we will obviously have to look at the various factors to determine the level of maintenance payable if at all.
