Does a divorce have to go to court?

Abby Smith, divorce lawyer, St Neots, Cambridgeshire

If you want to start divorce proceedings then the paperwork has to go to Court but if matters are dealt with amicably by agreement you don’t have to attend Court yourselves.  The divorce itself can be dealt with by paper as long as it’s uncontested and then the subsequent financial or children issues if they are dealt with amicably or by negotiation can be dealt with on paper as well without anybody actually needing to physically go to Court. If you are able to deal with the finances and children issues by agreement with the help of your solicitor then there is no need for anybody to go along to Court.
