Information and advice on divorce & family law

How does an affair impact on a financial settlement?

Usually if one person in the marriage has had an affair it has very little bearing on the financial aspects of the divorce.  Usually the only way an affair is relevant in the financial aspects of a divorce is if your spouse or the person who has had the affair is planning to live with their new partner because if they are planning to live with someone else then it usually means the new couple will have two incomes and they are sharing the outgoings on the property and if you are going to be living by yourself then your needs may be greater than theirs which may mean there is a departure from equality in the overall financial settlement
