If you are in need of divorce or family law advice how do you decide which family law expert to choose? Family law solicitor Kathryn McTaggart has some suggestions.
People often end up with the family lawyer that they want, but not necessarily the family lawyer that they need. I always suggest to people when they are looking for a family lawyer to think about the following:
- Make sure that your family lawyer shares your values and understands your priorities.
- Make sure that you are comfortable that your family lawyer will give you kindness and patience when you need it, but also firmness and straight talking when you need that as well.
- Most importantly, make sure that you have a rapport with your family lawyer because you are going to need to have some difficult discussions about often personal matters and whilst we can’t make it pleasant, it needn’t be awful.
- And I would add, it is really important that you make sure that you choose a specialist family lawyer to help you.
